Simplified Rear Seat Hinge Pin

2019 Version:

Old Version:

Getting the E-clip off of the rear hinge pin can be a PITA and those little clips like to run away and get lost in the garage. Here's a quick and easy mod to make removal/installation of the rear hinge pin much easier.

Here's what you need:

  • 1/4" diameter clevis pin ($1.35)

  • Corresponding re-usable stainless steel cotter pin ($1.70)

  • 17/64" drill bit

  • Grinder/Dremel

Since the factory pin is 6mm and the clevis pin is a slightly larger 1/4", you'll need to drill out the holes in the seat bar and seat hinge.  Then cut off the pin at the next hole and then round the tip of it like the factory pin.

(Credit to Shogs for steering me down this path.)

I later added a small zip-tie to make removing it even easier. I just stick a finger into the zip-tie and pull:
