Inexpensive Riding Movies (K100/1100RS)

What you'll need:

  • K100RS or K1100RS with windscreen deflector.

  • Mini DV MD80 Camera (about $7-8 on Fleabay)

  • Micro SD card. (Class 6 or better seems to work best.)

  • Piece of string.

  • Toothpick

Quick Specs:

  • Format: 720x480 AVI, 30 frames/second.

  • Charges via USB cable that comes with it.

  • Media: MicroSD.  Class 4 might work, I use Class 6.

I haven't tested it but I think you get about an hour of recording on a charge.  It puts a date/time stamp in the lower right hand of the video. I don't think there's a way to avoid that but you could crop the frame using video editing software to get rid of it.

I installed it on my K1100 RS by putting the clip over the windscreen.  I used a piece of string to tie it in there and twisted the string with a toothpick to keep the string tight.

All you get from the microphone is wind noise so I scrap the audio and dub in music,

Here's a test clip I shot while riding:

That was a little shaky so here it is after running it through YouTube's stabilizer:
