A somewhat common point of failure for K bikes' electrical system is that the connector for the fuel level sender becomes flaky.  One solution to this problem is to replace the connector with a four lead SAE trailer wiring harness connector.  One of the common ones available comes with white, yellow, green and brown wires which is pretty close to the wiring for a K bike's wiring colors.
